What’s In My Doula Bag: Home Birth Edition

“Your home, your birth, your pace... I’m just here to support the beauty of it all.”

Being a doula means holding sacred space in the way that works for you. For home births, I keep my bag lightweight but intentional, bringing tools, comforts, and tech that support you physically, emotionally, and energetically.

Tech Essentials

My phone and tablet are my portable command center. Everything I need is right here:

Birth plan, contract, and digital doula certificate. Music playlists & sound therapy tracks. Digital affirmation decks, eBooks, and client notes. Apple Pay & backup debit card.

“Efficiency + preparedness = more focus on the birth itself.”

For the Birthing Space

Creating calm and supportive vibes is my specialty. Here’s what I bring to set the tone:

Massage oils & rebozo scarf. Essential oils + portable diffuser. Soft lighting (LED candles, fairy lights, or color bulbs). Portable speaker for music or sound therapy. Color-coded cloths (color theory wellness). TENS machine (if planned). Honey sticks or coconut water. Hair ties & soft eye mask. Mini fan. Birth ball + peanut ball. My own gloves & sanitizer

“Every item is chosen to help you feel grounded, supported, and in control.”

For Myself

A well-prepared doula is a calm doula. I bring:

Healthy snacks & drinks. Blanket & pillow. Cozy hoodie or sweatshirt. Travel-size hygiene kit. My own masks (because they’re cute ). Doula badge. Refillable water bottle. Phone & tablet chargers. Headphones, earplugs, and eye mask (for rest if needed)

“Caring for myself lets me care for you fully.”

What I Don’t Bring

Some things are already covered by the midwife or the home environment:

Medical equipment (the midwife brings that). Birth pool (unless requested). Food or water for the birthing person (most homes already have this covered).

From the birth ball to sound therapy and color-coded cloths, every item in my bag is intentional, lightweight, and aligned with holistic, soulful care.

“This is how I show up: ready, present, and fully for you.”
