There’s something deeply special about preparing for a new client. Each time I pack a welcome kit, I’m reminded that someone is trusting me to walk alongside them during one of the most transformative seasons of their life. For me, the process of packing client welcome kits is more than a checklist. It’s an act of love and intention.
When I begin, I clear a space at my kitchen table, turn on a focus playlist, and set the tone. I want the energy I pour into each box or bag to reflect calm, warmth, and encouragement. I think about the mother who will open it. I consider what she might be feeling, what she might need that day, and how this small gesture can help her feel supported and seen.
Each kit usually includes a few essentials:
A welcome letter and resource guide that introduces what to expect from our sessions.
Herbal teas or bath salts to promote relaxation.
Affirmation cards for birth and postpartum encouragement.
A small item of comfort. Maybe a candle, a journal, or a handmade piece of art.
Practical tools like a birth planning worksheet or comfort measure guide.
I also love to personalize each one. For a first-time mom, I might add an encouraging note about trusting her instincts. For a mom with multiple children, I might include something that celebrates her strength and experience.
There’s power in tangible care. In a world that moves so fast, a welcome kit slows things down. It says, “You are valued. You are supported. You are not alone.”
By the time the kit is sealed and ready to go, I feel a wave of peace, knowing that I’m not just sending supplies, but intention, care, and community in a box.
Doula Tip: Even if you’re not a doula, you can create your own version of a “welcome kit” for yourself or a loved one... something that reminds you that you’re worthy of care, comfort, and celebration, right where you are.
