How I Combine Bible Study, Creating Art, and Stretching for Peaceful Mornings

Finding stillness in movement and connection through creation.

My mornings don’t start with silence. They start with sound and flow. The soft hum of my Bible app playing through my speakers, the quiet rhythm of my brush moving across a canvas, the gentle stretch of my body waking up for a new day.

I used to think that “Bible study” had to look a certain way: sitting still, reading line by line, highlighter in hand. But for me, that never worked. I live with auditory processing disorder (APD) and visual processing disorder (VPD), and when I try to read too long, my brain loops the same line over and over again. Add ADHD into the mix, and stillness can feel impossible.

But here’s the thing: God meets us where we are.

When I listen to the Word while creating art, something shifts. I hear every verse clearer. I absorb it in a deeper, more peaceful way. The colors I paint often become visual prayers. Each brushstroke a response to something I’ve just heard.

Listening to the Word: My Kind of Devotion

The Bible app has become one of my favorite companions. I’ll choose a passage or devotional, press play, and just… listen.

Sometimes I close my eyes for a few seconds and let the words soak in before I start painting. Other times, I listen while moving color across my canvas, letting the story unfold both in sound and texture.

I don’t rush to interpret. I just allow it to speak.

That’s how I commune. Not through sitting still, but through being present.

Creating Art: Letting the Spirit Flow Through My Hands

Painting is where my spirit speaks fluently.

It’s where I process emotions, prayer, and gratitude all at once. My art becomes an extension of my Bible study. It's a translation of God’s Word into color, movement, and light.

Sometimes, a verse will inspire a whole painting. Other times, I’ll realize what the message meant only after I’ve finished creating. Either way, art has become my form of worship... one that feels both grounding and freeing.

Stretching: Making Space for Peace

After I paint, I stretch. Nothing complicated. Just gentle, mindful movement to release what my body’s been holding.

Stretching reminds me that peace doesn’t have to be quiet or perfect. It can be active, alive, and flexible, just like faith.

Some mornings, I stretch with soft worship music playing. Other days, it’s silence except for my breath. Either way, I leave that space feeling reset and renewed.

What Peace Looks Like for Me

Peace, for me, isn’t sitting still or reading for hours. Peace is flow:  spiritual, creative, and physical.

It’s all connected. And it all helps me hear God more clearly, in my own way, through my own rhythm.

A Word for You

If traditional routines don’t work for you, that’s okay. Your way of connecting with God is just as sacred. Whether it’s listening, singing, journaling, painting, or walking... your worship counts.

Don’t let structure make you forget the Spirit moves in freedom.

God speaks through sound, movement, and color. Sometimes, peace comes when we stop trying to fit the mold and let our faith find its own flow.

Through Milli Femme, I help women and mothers create rituals that meet them right where they are, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. You don’t need perfection to find peace. You just need presence.

Here’s to peaceful mornings, art-filled prayers, and hearing the Word in your own beautiful way.
