Making My First Set of Invoices Since Leaving UNC

Today, I did something that felt both exciting and strangely heavy: I created my first set of invoices since leaving UNC. It’s a small, practical task in the grand scheme of things, but for me, it symbolizes a big step forward, a marker of independence, growth, and the start of a new chapter.

Leaving UNC wasn’t due to any fault or failure on my or UNC Chapel Hill's  part. It was simply time for me to move on, to explore new paths, and to chase opportunities that aligned with my evolving vision. That decision came with a swirl of emotions: gratitude for the experiences I had, sadness for the daily rhythms I left behind, and anticipation for what’s ahead.

The Bittersweet Part

Sitting at my desk, drafting these invoices, I felt the weight of leaving a place that shaped so much of who I am today. UNC gave me mentorship, collaboration, challenges, and triumphs. And saying goodbye to that community wasn’t easy.

At the same time, every line I typed, every number I calculated, reminded me that I’m capable of standing on my own. I’m building something for myself, creating systems, and taking responsibility in a way that feels both thrilling and daunting.
